jazz town hall meeting- i went to the delta center last night with my dad for a Jazz Town Hall Meeting, for season ticket holders.. i didn't take any pictures, but here's a copy of the review i posted to my favorite jazz message board,
Jazzhoops.net.
Begin My Review-i went to the Town Hall Meeting at the Delta Center tonight, mainly because I wanted to hear the teams thoughts on getting Tag back.. they said in the invites it would be on the court, but in fact it was in the VIP room.. they did however have all you can eat hot dogs..
KOC and Dennis Haslem were the only two people there who talked.. the first started off talking about the Ostertag trade.. we sent the 3 players to Memphis, they dealt them from there.. he wasn't concerned about letting the 3 players go who he did, Snyder hadn't turned out into what they thought he would (though it was only one year) and he thought with miles, it would have been hard for them to keep snyder in front of miles..
he also broke the trade down like this.. we traded 7 surgeries away (borch and lopez) for 1 good kidney.. the crowd laughed, i thought that was pretty funny..
on players returning to camp in shape - he mentioned that some players thought that training camp was the place to get in shape.. it's pretty much up to the players to stay in shape, but the jazz provide assistance wherever they can (trainer, nutritionist, etc.).. he says the jazz trainer will occaisionally fly to places where players are in the offseason to see how they are doing, and sometimes they'll fly a few in to see where they stand and where they need to be.. but, it all boils down to the player...
about talking about Deron Williams.. he said he's a smart kid.. when he came to the workout session, he showed up in a suit and tie.. it was basically a job interview, and he said that D-Will knew what he was doing.. during the first part of the review, D-Will was watching the games and eventually made his way over to where Sloan was sitting, talking to him for over a half hour, just so they could get familiar with each other.
he sounded like he wasn't too sure about whaley.. he said they liked him in the review, but there were some things the jazz told him he had to do in order to make the team.. they say he wants to make it so they feel like he'll do what he has to do to be in shape by the time camp starts..
about harprings surgery - says the doctor saw some things that should have been cleaned up before in previous surgery's? i wasn't too sure on this, but i hear he should be ready come november..
they said a few years ago when Stockton and Malone left, the team put down a plan for the next for years.. they say with their big signings (Memo, AK, Boozer) they could build a team around this.. unfortunately, luck didn't see it that way and 251 games were missed to injury last season.. he hopes we can build around this and keep improving, as we have the players locked in for a few years to come..
about Raja getting away, someone asked KOC how the jazz didn't do what they had to do to keep him.. KOC basically said about 10 minutes after they could, a deal was reached with Raja and Phoenix.. he said he called Raja's agent to try to make an offer to do what they had to, but never heard from Raja and found out it was then too late. Raja confirmed in his press conference that he just wanted to play for Phoenix, to play with Nash..
about having Ostertag.. he said we only signed him for 1 year.. we have other centers and he said that Big O just is a luxury.. if he can contribute, that's good and everything is just a benefit.. he also mentioned that Ostertag is in the bottom half of pay scales for backup centers, which is very funny..
EDIT: i'll add more as I can put more back into my brain. hope this clears some up for a few people.. feel free to comment as you wish.
